Jens Hesse

Lives and works in Antwerp

Jens Hesse's work is a research on the side-effects of the digital world. This series of paintings is made on corduroy that translates the vertical banding effect seen on LCD-screens. Jens, who was trained and worked as a fashion designer, likes to experiment on different material. He uses those surfaced pieces of fabric to enhance the reproduction of distortions accidently occurring in digital images. Those painted snapshots enable Jens to visually experiment, oscillating between figuration and abstraction while reinforcing emotional expressions in what appears almost surreal in this world of apparent digital perfection.

Born in 1973 in Heesen, Germany

Jens graduated in 2001 from the Hannover University for art, design and media in Fashion design and subsequently worked as afashion designer for 8 years. Since 2009, he works full time on painting.
